Gohar Ayub, former foreign minister and son of General Ayub Khan, died in Islamabad
HARIPUR - Gohar Ayub Khan, former foreign minister and ex-speaker of the National Assembly, breathed his last on Friday.
PTI leader Omar Ayub said in a post on social media, “Mr. Gohar Ayub Khan, former Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan and former Minister of External Affairs passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
The deceased was taken to a private hospital, but he did not survive, he is survived by two sons and two daughters. The funeral of the former minister will take place today at 3 pm and he will be buried at his native graveyard in Rehana village in Haripur.
Gohar Ayub was the second son of former military leader Ayub Khan. He also served in the Pakistan Army but took early retirement.
He entered politics in 1974 and contested his first National Assembly election from Haripur and later served as Speaker.
He was then appointed as Foreign Minister by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and later served as Minister of Water and Power.
He later joined the PML-Q along with his son Omar Ayub Khan but decided to leave politics.
His death was condemned and President Arif Alvi, interim Prime Minister Anwar Kakar and political leaders paid tribute to him.
