Dubai is replacing its 'World's Busiest Airport' with a bigger airport

 To accommodate the ever-increasing demand for air travel, Dubai is embarking on an ambitious project to replace its current airport, Dubai International Airport (DXB), with a larger and more technologically advanced facility. This new airport, dubbed Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), is poised to become the world's busiest airport upon its completion, surpassing DXB's current record-breaking status.

The decision to build a new airport was driven by several factors, including the projected growth of air travel in the region and DXB's limited capacity for expansion. DXB is currently operating at maximum capacity, handling over 100 million passengers annually. With passenger numbers expected to continue to rise in the coming years, DXB would eventually reach a saturation point, unable to accommodate further growth.

DWC, on the other hand, is designed to handle a staggering 240 million passengers annually, more than double DXB's current capacity. The airport will feature a state-of-the-art terminal, expansive runways, and cutting-edge technology to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience.

The construction of DWC is already underway, with the first phase scheduled for completion in 2025. The airport is expected to be fully operational by 2030, at which point it will gradually take over DXB's operations.

Once DWC becomes the world's busiest airport, it will not only solidify Dubai's position as a global aviation hub but also contribute significantly to the emirate's economic growth. The airport is expected to generate thousands of new jobs and attract even more businesses and tourists to Dubai.

The replacement of DXB with DWC marks a significant milestone in Dubai's development as a leading global city. The new airport will not only enhance Dubai's connectivity to the world but also serve as a testament to the emirate's vision and ambition.

World’s first complete eye transplant performed on US veteran

On November 9, 2023, surgeons at NYU Langone Health in New York City performed the world's first successful whole-eye transplant on a living person, Aaron James, a 46-year-old military veteran from Arkansas. James lost his left eye and part of his face in a work-related high-voltage electrical accident in 2021 . He underwent a 21-hour surgery to receive a whole-eye and partial face transplant from a deceased donor. The surgery was led by Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez, director of the Face Transplant Program at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Rodriguez and his team used 3D printing technology to create custom cutting guides to ensure the precision of the surgery. The transplant was a success, and James is now recovering at home.
